Vanuatu Immunization Campaign Reaches 37,000 Children

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is partnering with Vanuatu's Ministry of Health to provide measles and rubella vaccinations to children.

An estimated 37,000 children, ages 1-5, will be immunized during the months of April and May.

The Church has provided an educational video which is being shown to parents and children. The Church has also produced a radio jingle to publicise the campaign on radio stations nationwide.

Church humanitarian services representatives have arranged with a telecommunications company for SMS messages to be sent to parents of young children, giving details of clinics.

The Church is providing stationery and other supplies to assist the mobile immunization teams. Volunteers are also distributing t-shirts and treats to children at clinics.

Church spokesman, Katimal Kaun, says "We are involved in the campaign because there is a real need."

"As a church, as followers of Christ, we strive to reach out to those around us who need love and support."
