'Journey Together': New Cultural Series to Begin in Hamilton, New Zealand

On the third Sunday of each month, starting 18 May, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a series of lectures, musical performances, and other cultural events at the Hamilton New Zealand Temple Visitors’ Centre at 509 Tuhikaramea Road, Temple View, Hamilton.  The free events will begin at 6:00pm and all are welcome.

Upon completion of a proposed remodel of the Mendenhall Library in Temple View, the events will rotate between the Visitors’ Centre and the New Zealand Church History Centre, which is planned to be housed in the refurbished Mendenhall Library building.

The first lecture is scheduled for 18 May.  John R. Higgins, first counsellor in the New Zealand Hamilton Mission Presidency for the Church will be the featured speaker.  His address, titled, “From Small and Simple Things,” will focus on local Latter-day Saint as well as general Waikato and New Zealand histories.

Latter-day Saints place a strong emphasis on learning, preserving and sharing personal, family and general histories.  In Latter-day Saint scripture, Church members are asked to “obtain a knowledge of history, and of countries, and of kingdoms, of laws of God and man…” (Doctrine and Covenants 93:53).
