Church’s Goal: More Exercise, Less Diabetes Among Marshall Islands Children

Last week representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Majuro, Marshall Islands donated sporting equipment to children at the Uliga Public School.

The soccer balls, basketballs and other equipment was donated to the school to encourage more children to lead active lives and establish patterns of exercise.

Latter-day Saint leader, Zed Zedhkeia, said the Church is “pleased to have this opportunity to support the students and staff of Uliga School with this donation of sporting equipment to enable school children to engage in more sports and sports leagues.”

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recognizes there are high levels of diabetes incidence throughout all the islands of the Pacific,” he said. “Diabetes prevention is a major focus for the Church in these countries.”

“Through this donation of a variety of different balls and cones for goals, we hope that Uliga school children will develop a lifelong passion to stay fit and active. We hope these school children will not suffer diabetes or its complications like blindness, kidney or heart disease, strokes or amputations.”
