Latter-day Saints and Missionaries Safe after Second Earthquake in Two Days

Elder Viiga Fuimaono, a senior missionary and counsellor in the Vanuatu Port Vila Mission presidency serving in the Solomon Islands capital city of Honiara, reports all missionaries and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are safe after a quake on Saturday, 10 December 2016, the latest of two back-to-back earthquakes.

“All missionaries are okay,” he said. “No members are reported injured, but we may still not be out of the danger zone. There are still aftershocks here and there.”

The second quake, registering a 6.9 magnitude, was felt as far away as Australia.  It triggered a fresh tsunami warning that was lifted shortly thereafter. No deaths were reported.

The first earthquake which hit the island nation on Friday was 7.8 in magnitude.
