Taranaki Latter-day Saint Retires After Distinguished Police Career

“One of Taranaki's best known and most successful police officers announced his early retirement yesterday,” according to a report in the Taranaki Daily News [11 April 2013].

The article continues: “Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward has called it a day on his 28-year career.”

“Mr Coward, 57, has been the head of the New Plymouth CIB since 2000 and has spent 23 years working as a detective.”

“He has served his entire career, which includes 13 years in the armed offenders squad, five years as second in charge, and 10 years as head of the Taranaki police negotiation team, in the region.”

“Colleagues described Mr Coward as dedicated, professional and highly skilled and said he would be sadly missed.”

Mr Coward is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in a number of lay leadership positions including branch president [leader of a congregation] and district president [leader of a number of congregations].
