Taekwondo World Cup Silver Medallist Says Faith and Family Are Keys to Success

Anita Broczek , a mother of four and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently returned from the International Taekwondo Federation World Cup in Jamaica with two silver medals.

Anita started participating in Taekwon-Do in February 2011 when her son, Quinn, who has Asperger Syndrome, became interested in the sport after watching his two older siblings.

“I joined in to keep the kids company and to support Quinn,” said Anita.  “Now I’m the only one still participating!”

So she can attend worship services each Sunday, Anita does not compete or train on Sundays.  Her coaches have been respectful of her values and have helped her pursue her sport.

In June 2013, at the New Zealand Taekwondo National Championships, Anita injured her knee.  She says that her faith helped her get through her surgery and recovery.

“I had to overcome a lot of hurdles to get to the World Cup this year,” she said.

Anita attributes the discipline and Taekwondo philosophy in helping her become a stronger individual.  She is also very grateful for family support.

“I have learned the importance of setting goals, working hard, staying true to my values, and having faith that God will bless me.”

Her next goal – to participate in the World Cup in Budapest in 2016.
