New Zealand Mormons Gather for National Conference

Tens of thousands of members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will meet in Mormon meetinghouses across the country this Sunday (20 May 2012) for a national conference.

Linked via satellite technology, attendees will hear messages from Latter-day Saint leaders in the Church's headquarters in Salt Lake City, United States.

Latter-day Saints gather for annual ward conferences in their local congregations, for semi-annual stake conferences (a stake is similar to a diocese), and for semi-annual worldwide general conferences.

Messages and music at Latter-day Saint conferences, as is also the case with Sunday worship services, focus on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Recently an American journalist attended a Latter-day Saint conference in Ohio. The journalist then decided to write an indepth article on the Church and its members.
