Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines recently reached out to assist students in need from Vanuatu.
“We became aware of some 74 students studying in the Philippines who were struggling to make ends meet,” said Elder Ian S. Ardern, president of the Philippines Area of the Church.
The Ni-Vanuatu students lacked the necessary food and resources due in part to the lingering impact of Cyclone Pam that damaged the island nation and devastated its economy in March of this year.
Although not members of the Church, Church leaders saw an opportunity to reach out to them in a humanitarian effort.
Some of the Ni-Vanuatu students assisted the Mormon Helping Hands volunteers in preparing the food for distribution.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through it humanitarian efforts, including Mormon Helping Hands community service initiatives, aims to provide necessities to those in need in times of crisis around the world.
