Military Bowl Pits Polynesian 'Brother' Against 'Brother'

'We're calling it the Poly Bowl'

On 28 December 2017 the Virginia Cavaliers met the Midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy in the 10th annual Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland.

Not only are there six Polynesians between the two coaching staffs, but both head coaches and several of the assistants on each staff are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Believing that all men and women on Earth are sons and daughters of God, members of the Church refer to male members as "Brother" and female members as "Sister".

Navy won the contest 49 - 7. You can read more about the coaches and their Polynesian connections in the Washington Post article here.

Style Guide Note:When reporting about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, please use the complete name of the Church in the first reference. For more information on the use of the name of the Church, go to our online Style Guide.
