Leadership Changes Announced at General Conference

New General Authorities for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were announced at the Saturday afternoon session of the Church’s 183 annual General Conference on 6 April 2013.

The First Presidency announced eight new General Authorities and 59 Area Seventies.  A new Young Women General Presidency was also announced.

Elder Terence M. Vinson, from Sydney, Australia, was serving as an Area Seventy in the Pacific Area when he was called to the Second Quorum of the Seventy. 

Members of the Seventy have responsibility for administering the work of the Church throughout the world under the direction of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. 

Since joining the Church in the mid-1970’s Elder Vinson has served as a bishop’s counsellor, bishop, high councillor, stake president’s counsellor, regional representative, mission president’s counsellor and temple ordinance worker.

Elder Vinson was born in Sydney, Australia and is married to Kay Anne Carden.  They are the parents of six children.

Those called to serve as Area Seventies in the Pacific Area were: Paul R. Coward, Auckland, New Zealand;  Meliula M. Fata,  Apia, Samoa; ‘Aisake K. Tukuafu , Nuku’alofa, Tonga; Robert J. Dudfield, Victoria, Australia; and Keith P. Walker, New South Wales, Australia.

Area Seventies give part-time voluntary Church service within their assigned geographic areas and support area presidencies in international areas.

Releases for the following Area Seventies from the Pacific Area were also announced, effective 1 May 2013: Douglas Jessop, American Samoa; Michael Roberts, Auckland, New Zealand;  and Sione Fineanganofo, Nuku’alofa, Tonga.
