LDS Members Serve as Volunteers at the World Cup

Russia has declared 2018 the “Volunteer Year”. The World Cup has provided an opportunity for Russian members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) to take part in volunteer service at the games.

Football fans from all over the world have noted the hospitality of Russians and their constant readiness to help in solving problems, amongst those serving are several Church members. One of the members who serves as a volunteer noted:

“I have participated many times in various volunteer programs including social, charitable and sports events. This year I was lucky enough to pass the test and become a volunteer interpreter of the World Cup, which is here for the first time in the history of our country.

The team of volunteers unites people of different professions and ages, among whom are students, pensioners, and even entire families. By becoming a volunteer, you join the movement of thousands of people who make an event like the World Cup possible. Volunteering is an opportunity to make connections with those around us and have invaluable experiences.”

Another member of the church who is volunteering told his story: “I love football and when I found out that Russia would host the World Cup, I really wanted to visit because such a chance happens once in a lifetime. Two years ago, I applied to become a volunteer and I was selected. I am also glad that my family supports me in this service; otherwise, it would be impossible.”

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) are active participants in volunteer programs and believe that selfless service to one's neighbor allows them to follow the path of Jesus Christ.
