Volunteers from the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined with others recently to save a community from tidal flooding in Kiribati.
The volunteers hauled sand and filled bags near the seawall in Tarawa, Kiribati as flood waters threatened around 100 homes for the second time this month.

Humanitarian services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided the materials to help construct a four metre wide causeway fortified by coral rocks and cement on one side with sandbags on the other side.
Kiribati Service Centre Manager for the Church, Iotua Tune, said, "It has been a wonderful experience to see church and community members working together on this important project.”
One woman whose home had been flooded previously, expressed gratitude to the Church for saving their homes and community.
"We can sleep well tonight with a feeling of security knowing that our homes will not be flooded again," she said.
“Our hope,” Mr Tune said, “is that the constructed seawall will withstand the power of the ocean within the next two days and continue to protect this community from flooding in the future."
