Elder S. Gifford Nielsen Meets with Western Australian Government and Faith Leaders

Elder S. Gifford Nielsen, a member of the Pacific Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, met this Monday (22 September) with government, faith and community leaders at Western Australia’s Parliament House.

Mr Michael Sutherland, MLA, Member for Mt Lawley and Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, hosted a morning tea with Elder Nielsen and other guests.

Mr Sutherland thanked The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for being a stalwart in strongly upholding family values. He also recognised the Church’s efforts in local communities throughout Western Australia.

Elder Nielsen thanked Mr Sutherland for his warm welcome and also thanked all other government, civic and faith leaders who attended the gathering. 

“We have many common values that bind us together,” he said. “Especially with respect to safeguarding religious freedom for all, and living by and teaching strong family values.”

Guests at the event included: Elizabeth Behjat, MLC, Member for North Metropolitan; Tracey Roberts, Mayor, City of Wanneroo; Ian Britza, MLA, Member for Morley; Graeme Lienert, Lay Minister, Lutheran Church; Graham Mabury, Lay Minister, Baptist Church; Rev David Lowe, WA Director, Family Voice; and John Barich, National Vice President, Australian Family Association.

The previous two days (Saturday 20 September and Sunday 21 September), Elder Nielsen presided over the Latter-day Saints’ Perth Australia Dianella Stake Conference.
