Church Donates Neonatal Ultrasound Machine to Samoan Hospital

Responding to local needs in Samoa, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated a neonatal ultrasound machine to the Faleolo Medical Centre this week.

At a ceremony on 6 May at the medical centre to mark the event, Minister of Health, Tuitama Dr. Leao Tuitama, expressed gratitude for the donation.

Also in attendance were the General Manager of National Health Services, Leota Laki Sio, as well as hospital staff and local Latter-day Saint leaders.

Neonatal heath has long been a focus for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Working with national health organizations and ministries of health, last year the Church sent volunteer physicians and nurses to 33 countries providing neonatal resuscitation training to 24,000 people. This included training 900 doctors, nurses and mid-wives.

Over 900,000 babies die each year because they cannot breathe at birth.
