Church Brings 'Power' to Kiribati Community

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is donating a local power transformer to Kiribati's Public Utilities Board as part of one of the Church's building projects.

In order to bring power to a new Latter-day Saint chapel under construction in Temaiku on Kiribati's main island of Tarawa, the existing transformer needed to be replaced.

The Public Utilities Board had not budgeted for this, so Church leaders offered to fund the upgrade.

As a result, not only will the Mormon chapel have power, so too will local residents and businesses.

"Whenever the Church comes into a village or neighbourhood, power comes from heaven into the lives of individuals and families," says Iotua Tune, a Latter-day Saint leader in Kiribati.

"But in this case, there will be earthly power coming to the people, as well as heavenly power."
