Christchurch's 'Farmy Army' Continues to Bring Relief

Mei Riwai-Couch from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was one of many volunteers supporting the Farmy Army in Christchurch to deliver food to residents over the weekend.

More than 700 food parcels of meat and vegetables were packaged and distributed around the earthquake weary city.

Sara Russell, one of the coordinators and also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, has been involved with the Farmy Army since it was mobilised immediately after the February 2011 earthquake to assist with the removal of liquefaction from eastern parts of Christchurch.

Russell coordinated farmers from around the Canterbury region who provided their own earth movers, wheel barrows and shovels to help. Providing food, particularly meat and produce, has provided important relief to many families.
