Auckland Youth Cook for Fun

Two youth groups from Auckland, New Zealand joined together last night for a “Cook-off.” The competition had teenagers from the Torbay and Albany wards (congregations) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints race the clock to come up with a delicious meal using a “mystery bag” of ingredients.

The judges, Bishop Darrell Rapata (Torbay Ward) and Bishop David Clarke (Albany Ward), assessed each group’s dishes on presentation, use of ingredients, and what Bishop Clarke called “yumminess.”

The winning group took one hour to prepare a stir fry main course and pancakes for dessert.

Each week Latter-day Saint youth groups around the world get together to socialise, play sports, learn to dance, and participate in other activities.

Friends who are not members of the Church often attend also.

Pacific Area Director of Public Affairs for the Church, Richard Hunter, says, “These activities are all about helping our wonderful youth to have fun and grow friendships, to develop their talents and knowledge, and to strengthen one another in their faith in our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ.”

The Church publishes a hard copy and online magazine for youth each month, titled, “New Era.”

A “Mormon Messages” YouTube channel for youth provides video content aimed at helping young people respond to the challenges and opportunities of life with confidence and hope.
