Students Share Christmas Spirit with Schools in Tonga

St. John's School in Auckland, New Zealand donated used school furniture to disadvantaged schools in Tonga.

Missionaries from the Auckland New Zealand Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and students at St. John's were able to share the spirit of Christmas.

The students and missionaries weathered both rain and shine in moving used desks and chairs from St. John's School and packed them into a large shipping container bound for Tonga.

St. John's School is a Catholic school located in Mairangi Bay on Auckland's North Shore.

The school donated a total of 192 school desks, 77 chairs, and an assortment of library and stationary books.

The recipients of this donation will be schools in Tonga, located in the capital Nuku'alofa.

Coincidentally, the desks are red in colour which happens to be the Tongan national colour.

The project was coordinated by Pacific Assist, an Australian and New Zealand based not-for-profit charity providing education, health and well-being, economic development, and humanitarian assistance to countries in the South Pacific.  Partnering with Latter-day Saint Charities and the generosity of many, the desks and chairs were shipped to Tonga to be put to good use by the recipient schools.
