1,200 Young New Zealanders to Celebrate New Year's Eve Without Alcohol and Drugs

Approximately 1,200 young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are expected to meet in Auckland after Christmas for a six-day ‘Young Single Adult Conference’ that will include an alcohol and drug-free New Year’s Eve dance.

“We have had many other dances like this one before,” says conference organiser Hans Sorensen, “and the level of enjoyment and fun is always very high.”

“These great young people show that you don’t need stimulants to have a great time.”

The conference will be held from 28 December to 2 January at the Auckland Grammar School.

Sorensen says that conference participants will be involved over the six days in workshops, devotionals, a day at the beach, cultural activities and community service projects.

One young person who attended last year’s event wrote on the conference website: “This is an event not to be missed that provides lasting memories and leaves you wanting more – do not miss out.”

One of the guest speakers at the conference will be Victor L. Ludlow, a scholar of Isaiah and Judaism.  Dr Ludlow, from Brigham Young University, is a renowned speaker throughout the world and has written many books and articles.

Hans Sorensen says “the organising committee members have been planning the event for many months to make sure that this will be a memorable time for all who take part.”

Similar conferences will take place at the same time in Sydney and Adelaide.
