Young New Zealanders Send Sport Shoes to Papua New Guinean Teens

A group of Papua New Guinean teenagers are enjoying their sports activities a little more now thanks to shoes sent to them by New Zealanders who are roughly the same age.

Boys from an Auckland congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints decided a few months ago to go through their cupboards and also ask friends and family members if they had spare sport shoes that were still in good condition.

The young New Zealanders collected 20 pairs of soccer boots, running and basketball shoes which were sent to Papua New Guinea.

According to Paul Whippy, Latter-day Saint Service Centre Manager in Port Moresby, the Papua New Guinean youth were delighted to have shoes to wear as they play sports.

“Our young people love sports, but many of them don’t have shoes. We’re very grateful for the New Zealand youth for thinking of helping others in another country.”
