VIDEO: Church Holds Pacific-Wide ‘Family Night’ with Young Adults

Young people talk about ways to overcome challenges of life through faith and action

A ‘Family Home Evening’ shared Monday night via Facebook Live featured Elder S. Gifford Nielsen and his wife Sister Wendy Nielsen leading a discussion with young Auckland Latter-day Saints.

The event focused on loving and following the Saviour Jesus Christ and on inviting others to do likewise.

Elder Nielsen is a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of the Church’s Pacific Area Presidency.

The Nielsen’s lead the hour-long discussion, provided counsel and encouragement, and answered questions on important issues young adults face as they strive to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ in an often difficult world.

The capstone of the Facebook Live event was Elder and Sister Nielsen sharing their feelings about Jesus Christ and their thoughts about Easter, the celebration of “the most transcendent event in human history.”

“The tomb is empty,” declared Elder Nielsen. “Jesus is the Living Christ. He is the Living Saviour of the world.  He can heal us and help us.”

Over 14,000 people have watched the video so far.

The Family Home Evening can be viewed on the Pacific Area Facebook page.

Family Home Evening is a Church program that encourages families of all types to meet together weekly and strengthen family members, and in YSA wards, strengthen each other in small or large groups.

A typical family home evening begins and ends with a prayer and usually includes singing, scripture reading, a short lesson on a religious or practical topic, and refreshments. Instead of a lesson, it might include a service project or fun activity.  It is most often held on Monday evening and is sometimes referred to as Family Night.
