Savaii Teens Take Part in ‘For the Strength of Youth’ Conference

650 young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took part in a special youth conference from 6-10 April, called "For the Strength of Youth (FSY).” The conference was held  at the LDS Church College, Vaiola, on the Samoan island of Savaii.

Around 500 teenagers were mentored and supported by close to 150 young adults throughout the conference.

The conference included workshops, sports, devotionals and cultural activities.

According to organisers, the purpose of the conference was “to strengthen youth in their commitment to live the gospel of Jesus Christ by providing inspiring, edifying, learning opportunities and wholesome social experiences.

"This was done by providing a well-balanced program socially and spiritually; providing exceptional staff who encourage, assist, and mentor youth by living the gospel, teaching effectively, and administering activities appropriately; and bringing together those with similar values.”

The theme for the conference was taken from a book of Latter-day Saint scripture, the Doctrine and Covenants. “O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve Him with all your heart, might, mind and strength (Doctrine and Covenants 4:2).”

Maiava Viiga, Lupeautino Fuimaono, Lokeni Fafai and Manu Fafai were among the many who helped to make the conference a success.

Similar gatherings take place around the world each year, giving young people opportunities to make friends, have fun, develop their talents and increase their faith in God and Jesus Christ.
