“You don’t need permission to do great things!” Mayor Nick Leggett told a group of young people in Porirua Wednesday evening 15 April.
Latter-day Saint teenagers and young adults in Porirua were invited to share their ideas about the future of their city with Mayor Nick Leggett and Deputy Mayor Ana Coffey.
A workshop was organized the previous week by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint for these young people to learn about the work of the City Council.

Mayor Leggett and Deputy Mayor Coffey spoke to them about how important their voices can be in helping with council decisions. They encouraged the youth to think about ways they can be a positive influence in their community.
Following the Mayor's address the young people were encouraged to make submissions to the Porirua City Long Term Plan.
A dinner was provided allowing time for individual conversations with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Latter-day Saint public affairs specialist, Tania Torea, said, “It’s been good to see young people talking with the Mayor. I hope this experience will give them the courage to do great things.”
