'Mormon Helping Hands' Volunteers Assemble Hygiene Kits for Mothers and Babies

Volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Henderson Valley, Auckland recently put together 100 hygiene kits for mothers who give birth at Waitakere Maternity Hospital.

One of the service project organisers, Marilyn Manukia, explained that the items in the packs were donated by the families and members of the Henderson Valley Ward (congregation) as part of their annual ward conference weekend.

"Each ward in our church holds a conference once a year," she said.

On many occasions the weekend invlolves community service.

Hospital midwife, Rachael Wilson, said, "this kindness will add quality to the mothers' stay in the hospital and will help mothers bond with their babies."

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world take part in similar "Mormon Helping Hands" activities regularly. Such service is seen by Latter-day Saints as an important way to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
