Latter-day Saint Chapel in Santos Offers Refuge to Ambae Evacuees

Disabled and elderly residents take shelter

Ambae, an island in Vanuatu sits on the geologically active Pacific Ring of Fire. Residents there have become accustomed to the rumblings of the island volcano, Manaro Voui, but on September 28, 2017, after a week of increasing volcanic activity, the government of Vanuatu ordered a complete evacuation of the island.

Some of the 11,000 citizens of Ambae escaping the danger of an eruption, are finding refuge in churches on the island of Santos.
