Latter-day Saints Support 'Man Up Fiji' Campaign

Elder Adolf J. Johansson, Area Seventy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was recently invited by Fiji’s Minister of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, to join in the launch of the “Man Up Fiji" campaign in Suva, Fiji.

The initiative was designed to promote the elimination of violence against women and children.

President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Jioji Konrote, was among the disinguished guests who attended the launch at Albert Park in Suva on Saturday, 7th of October 2017.

The President encouraged every Fijian to join the campaign and celebrate the lives and efforts of the women and children in their lives.

Elder Johansson shared the Church's document entitled, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” with ministry officials in attendance and discussed with them how the proclamation supports the "Man Up Fiji" campaign.

The proclamation on the family contains a forceful condemnation of abuse: “We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God.”

Copies of the proclamation were provided to officials who were in attendance.
