Five Former Missionaries from Kiribati Head to Nauru to Work

Young Latter-day Saints will strengthen Church and community

The Nauru Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently received a boost in membership when five returned missionaries from Kiribati accepted positions to work at the Menen Hotel in Nauru.

Recently, John Larkin, president of the Marshall Islands/Kiribati mission, with first counsellor, Iotua Tune, spent a week in Nauru training local Church leaders and strengthening the saints.

During their visit to Nauru, Presidents Larkin and Tune met with the Menen Hotel manager to enquire as to why she selected these young returned missionaries for employment.

Travelling to Kiribati, the manager interviewed over 25 applicants to fill five positions. Many of those applicants were members of the Church including missionaries who had returned to Kiribati after completing their missions.

While serving missions, these young men and women served the communities in which they lived and taught the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

The manager recalled she was looking for young people who smiled a lot, were honest and hard-working, had integrity and possessed good values.

“I have not met such wonderful young people before—they are very special," the manager said.

These young new members in the Nauru branch will be able and qualified to fill Church positions and further strengthen the local Church.
