Inspired by the #LightTheWorld Christmas service initiative, 22-year old Nemani Tuitubou decided to donate blood to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva, Fiji.
Upon his arrival at the hospital earlier this month he was asked by attending staff if the donation was for a specific patient or family member. His answer of "no" came as a surprise to hospital workers.
He shared that he was following the "Light the World" Christmas initiative organised by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which all are encouraged to carry out an act of kindness for someone else each day for 25 days during the Christmas season.
He explained that for this day (Day 1 of the initiative) the scriptural reference was, "Freely ye have received, freely give." (Matthew 10:8)
He wanted to donate some of his blood as this was freely provided for him, he said.
"The attendant was curious about the programme, so I showed her how she could download the #LightTheWorld site onto her phone," he said.
In the course of the discussion, the patient on the bed next to Nemani asked questions about the Church. Of course, the 22-year old, just home from his service as a missionary, was delighted to tell his fellow donor about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
Other young Latter-day Saints in Fiji have now organised a plan to "freely give" to the blood bank in the days to come.
