'Mormon Helping Hands' Volunteers Support Wellington Night Shelter

Wellington, New Zealand  —

Mormon women from across Wellington made over fifty packs of home-baked cookies and Christmas mince pies destined for the Wellington Night Shelter this week.

The packs were delivered by two local members from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Night Shelter Manager, Mike Leon.

“It's nice to get home-baked goods this time of year, it makes our guests feel like part of a family,” explained Mike. “I appreciate the ongoing relationship with 'Mormon Helping Hands' volunteers who have often made Christmas cookies for us.”

Charles Turner, a part-time employee at the shelter and a Latter-day Saint, was also on hand to help organize and ensure the home-baked goods made it to the shelter in time for Christmas.

Tasi Cammock, who organised the initiative, says, “It was great to have so many women  and their children come together and bake cookies for people in our local community who may otherwise be overlooked during this season of giving.”

The Night Shelter has given some of Wellington's most vulnerable men a safe night's rest by offering them overnight accommodation in one of their 23 dormitory beds or in their upstairs semi-independent hostel service with shared facilities.
