‘Meet the Mormons’ Movie Airs on Samoan Television

A new film called “Meet the Mormons” aired on national television in Samoa last night. TV3 showed the movie at 9pm and will repeat it on Monday the 9^th and Monday the 16^th at 9pm.

“Meet the Mormons” profiles six members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the United States, Costa Rica and Nepal.

The 78 minutes long film is aimed at helping those not familiar with the faith to get to know it better, through the lives of some of its members.

Paul Bennallack, head of Information and Communication Services in the South Pacific region for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is visiting Samoa this week. He and two colleagues were invited to watch “Meet the Mormons” in the home of Kevesi and Sau Hunt and their family.

“Using technology in intelligent, creative ways is crucial for a growing global church,” Bennallack says.

“What this experience says to me is that we have the technology to connect people around the world with wonderful messages, such as are found in this movie.”

Other guests in the Hunt home last night included Dennis Phillips and Joe Prows from the Church’s Information and Communication Services Department in Salt Lake City, United States.

“Meet the Mormons” has shown on dozens of theatre screen and in other venues over the last few weeks in the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. This follows a national theatrical release of the movie in the United States last October.

Next month millions of Latter-day Saints and others will watch, listen to or read the proceedings of the annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“We will use satellite technology, the Internet and other means to ensure that anyone who wants to strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ and improve their lives by hearing and acting on the counsel of modern-day prophets and apostles can do so,” Bennallack said.
